Adjustment![]() An adjustment is the primary method chiropractor's use to correct problems within your spine or extremities (often a subluxation). It is a safe, specific, and gentle pressure applied to you spine to restore the proper motion and position of your spinal bones. A spinal joint which isn't moving will irritate or choke the nearby nerve. A chiropractic adjustment will add motion to these abnormal joints and restore normal functions. An adjustment can also be used on areas such as elbows, knees, ankles, wrist, etc to correct problems in these areas as well.
At our office we have several different techniques and ways to deliver a chiropractic adjustment. The technique used is tailored specifically for the patient. Our office's techniques include Diversified, Gonstead, Thompson drops, Activator (instrument), also many modified techniques for infants, children and pregnant women. Everyone can benefit from chiropractic care including newborns, children, seniors and even those who underwent back surgery. Are adjustments safe? Every health procedure, from taking aspirin to giving blood, involves some level of risk. Chiropractic adjustments are among the safest of all health care procedures because they are non-surgical, non-invasive, drug free, and present low risk. A New Zealand goverment study reported chiropractic adjustments were "remarkably safe." How many adjustments will I need? The number varies from patient to patient. Many people see results within a week or two of frequent adjustments. The goal of chiropractic care is to get the problem area of your spine to stabilize and remain subluxation free. The length of time you have had the problem, your age, and the degree of your disability can affect the length of your treatment. Why do infants need adjustment? The birthing process is a traumatic experience due to twisting and pulling of baby out of the birthing canal. This creates a lot of stress on the infants delicate spine and developing nervous system resulting in irritation to the nervous system caused by spinal and cranial misalignment or subluxations. These subluxations can be the cause of many newborn health complaints. Colic, breathing problems, irregular bowel movements, nursing difficulties, sleep disturbances, allergic reactions and chronic infections can often be traced to nerve system stress. Can people with osteoporosis get adjustments? Yes. Many people with osteoporosis experience back pain and seek chiropractic care for relief. Gentle techniques such as the instrument assisted Activator Methods can be used to help those with osteoporosis What about people who have undergone back surgery? Our office provides care to many individuals who have undergone back surgery such a discectomy (partial removal of the disc) and fusions (often involving rods and screws to completely immobilize a portion of the spine). Surgery often causes instability and issues with the areas below and above the involved level. These areas around the surgical area are our primary focus. It is especially important after surgery to keep the areas around it moving properly to prevent future spinal decay and problems. Isn't some back pain normal? Pain, of any kind and at any age, is our body signaling us there is something wrong. It is the way our body tells us we have reached our limit and something needs to be fixed. In our fast paced lifestyles we have learned to ignore pain or even mask the pain signals with certain types of medications. But even if taking a pill stops the pain signals it does not stop the source of the pain. For example, if your car starts squealing, you can ignore it by turning up the radio, but that doesn't make the problem go away! Eventually, you will have to get your car fixed but it will likely cost much more and take much more work to fix the problem. If you have been "turning up the radio" to ignore the pain, give us a call or click here to schedule a FREE consultation, to see if we can help you! By ignoring the cause of the pain, your condition could get worse and take even more time to resolve once you begin care to fix it. As the old saying goes, "If you don't have your health you don' t have anything." We help you discover and resolve the causes of problems rather than managing and masking the symptoms. |
